My sophomore year of college, I lived and taught in Cape Town, South Africa. I worked in two third grade classes at Christel House school. It is there that I first recognized the importance of education for students living in poverty. School was what gave these students hope for the future. Along with an education, this school also provided health care, food, clothing, and work experience for students in kindergarten through twelfth grade.
